Our driver, a changing environment

The successful completion of an automation project consists of the identification of the WHAT, business targets, and the adherence to a HOW, corporate IT development standards. Our focus is on the selection of business targets, or the WHAT.

After a forty year effort to combine the WHAT and HOW; it is now accepted that the two processes require unique, separate, and complicated disciplines. It is also recognized that the WHAT should be combined with the HOW only after ROI business targets have been identified.

(The WHY - You need to figure out where you are going before you leave. You need to acquire/build the transportation medium before you decide to take a trip.)

The WHAT consists of the selection of business targets that if automated will provide a high return on investment. From a business perspective there are three requirements for the automation of a solution, they are: 1) it achieves the business objectives, 2) it is done quickly, and 3) it is easy to use.

The HOW represents the adherence to corporate development standards, for example the selection of: .Net, J2EE, C+, JAVA, Object Oriented Design/Programming, Rational Unified Process, etc. These standards also include accommodations for internal and external systems that do not adhere to the latest/selected methodologies. From a technical perspective there are three requirements for success, they are: 1) availability of qualified technical personnel, 2) availability of the appropriate hardware and system software, and 3) the proper selection of a WHAT.

The WHAT is our focus, excellence is our driver, success is our goal, and competitive advantage is our target.
